The Founding Fathers intended Congress to be made up of ordinary citizens who descend upon Washington, D.C. when in session to represent the individuals in their districts and States. However, Capitol Hill is now a home for career politicians who are beholden to special interest groups.  Term limits are needed to ensure 1) there will be an inevitable “changing of the guard,” 2) it will be harder for special interest groups and lobbyists to “own” a person and use funds to ensure the continuous election of that individual, and 3) the elected official will stay more grounded and in touch with their constituents.  While the length of a term and number of terms should be discussed, I believe twelve year limits should be set for the House and Senate.

We must also ensure that the Twenty Second Amendment remains, and that Presidents continue to be limited to two terms, or no longer than ten years.
